Savin is a journalist and academic. He is interested in reporting stories from perspectives not often told, while upholding journalism ethics. He believes that journalism has the power to show a face to a report and a perspective beyond the numbers. He has reported from Morocco, Standing Rock, North Dakota, Cincinnati, Ohio and Portland, Maine.

He graduated in December, 2017 from Xavier University, with a degree in international studies and communications.
